How Garland Drake "Stages" Hair is Processed
Two Types (sources) of Hair
We carry 2 types of hair - Chinese and Indian. One is not better than the other. They just are different. The natural texture of Chinese hair is straight whereas Indian hair has a natural wave. The Indian hair is "thinner" than Chinese hair. Indian hair is more expensive right now ... due to supply and demand issues.

- First the hair must be selected.

- Next it must be hackled - separating the different lengths of hair and put into bundles by length.
Picture shown how we soften the cuticle.
- We process our hair first by placing it in an acid bath to soften the cuticle.
- The hair is rinsed in water, then in a soda bath to naturalize the aside, then spun dry.
- small bundles are made and the hair is ready to scrub.
- By hand each small bundle of hair is scrubbed, removing part of the cuticle.
- The hair is inspected. This step is where part of the "art" of processing comes in.
- The chemicals are mixed for the bleaching step.
- The hair is placed in vats of the bleach.
- The colors are achieved by timing the bleaching process. At about s3 all the hair is removed and examined.
- The hair that is still strong can go on for more bleaching to the blonde colors.
- All the hair must be rinsed, and rinsed and rinsed. Removing all the chemicals.
- The hair is then dried either in a drying room or outside.
- It is again hackled. Any "damaged" hair is removed at this time.
- It is placed in bundles by color, weight and length ready to be used.
- Here is an example of one step of making a weft.
- The wefts are shipped to us. We hand inspect each weft. We wash each one and hang them out in the California sunshine to dry.
- Then the hair is stored in bins, in our warehouse, in the open air so that the hair can "breath". These wefts are then used to create all our various products from the Clip-In Extensions to our Integration Hairpieces.
